Dwight J. Hinds, 96, of Huntington and formerly of Big Lake, IN, passed away on Monday, July 29, 2019 at Markle Health & Rehabilitation, Markle, IN.
Mr. Hinds was born on January 10, 1923, to Paul and Mary (Pinkerton) Hinds. His parents preceded him in death. He married Kathern L. Roebuck on July 20, 1941. She preceded him in death December 29, 2016.
Mr. Hinds served in WWII at Normandy. He was a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star recipient. After the war, Dwight worked at Bartrom’s Garage. He then was a Machinist for Sturms Auto for 27 years and later worked at Central Noble County Schools for 7 years in maintenance. He was a member of the VFW #2689. Mr. Hinds was also a member of Zion United Methodist Church
He is survived by his daughter: Gloria (Jerry) Landrum of Huntington. Three grandchildren: Scott (Holly) Landrum, Angie (Matt) Tyner, and Randy (Darcie) Landrum all of Huntington. Five great grandchildren: Lainey (Damon) Wilkinson, Emma Landrum, Phoebe Landrum, Hattie Landrum, and Grace Landrum all of Huntington and one great great granddaughter: Dixie Wilkinson. Also one Brother: Wayne Hinds of Huntington, IN, and one Sister: Tayna Carlson of Tonia, PA.
He was preceded in death by: one great grandson Dustin Tyner, one brother John Hinds and one sister Ella Maria Hendrickson.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. immediately following the viewing, with Reverend Chris Mongson officiating.
Burial will be at The Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Marion, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to: Zion United Methodist Church, Heart to Heart Hospice or Markle Healthcare in care of McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home.
