D. Arlene (Deeter) Switzer

D. Arlene Switzer, 86, of Huntington, IN, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family on Wednesday, October 31, 2018.   Arlene was born on September 20, 1932, in Whitley County, IN, to the late Cedric and Pauline (Hubbell) Deeter. Arlene married her sweetheart Willis (Bill) Switzer on April 22, 1951.  He survives in Huntington, IN.

Arlene was a 1950 graduate of Columbia City High School.  She retired after 29 years of employment at Wabash Magnetics.  Arlene and her husband were longtime members of St. Peter’s First Community Church.  Arlene was an accomplished quilter, completing 86 quilts and a member of the Piecemaker’s Quilt Club.  She also enjoyed playing euchre and golf.  She also was an avid antique doll collector.  She and her husband loved square dancing and ballroom dancing and at one time belonged to the Starlight Dancers.

 Along with her husband she is survived one son, David (Debra) Switzer; one daughter, Paula (Robert) Bittner, both of Huntington, IN; one sister, Frances (Ed) Hartman, Crooked Lake, IN; five grandchildren, Andrew Bittner, Elizabeth Ensley, Sarah Wright, Maggie Switzer, Whitney Switzer; and four great grandchildren, Abagayle, Alexis, Hailey and Lane.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by one daughter, Polly Marie Switzer; and one brother, George Deeter.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, November, 5, 2018, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN  46750.                       

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN, 46750.

Burial will be at Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery, Huntington, IN.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Peter’s First Community Church in care of McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN  46750.
